Five sisters beat their brother to death for demanding a share of dowry

The police have arrested and arraigned in court five sisters for beating their brother to death on Sunday 16th February 2020, after he demanded for a share of the dowry paid for one of his sisters.

According to reports, the 51-year-old victim identified as Paul Njeri was brutalized by his sisters at a goat-eating ceremony that preceded after the payment of the dowry event at Mwimuto Village in Kiambu County of Kenya.

It was gathered that the deceased who insisted that he wanted a share of the dowry that was paid for their eldest sister who was not among the five, was badly beaten with logs and firewood by his sisters identified as Elizabeth Wairimu, Mary Muthoni, Alibeta Njambi, Susan Wambui and Catherine Wanja.

Steve Kirui, the Gatundu North Sub-County police commissioner confirmed the arrest of the five suspects who were reportedly “shocked” that their brother who they thought overslept after he locked himself in his house in their mother’s compound, passed away from his injuries.

Kirui said;

“The goat-eating ceremony was to the mark the start of the dowry-payment process. The suspects are said to have ganged up against the deceased after he demanded he be given a share of the dowry that was to be paid for one of the sisters.”

It was further learnt that the sisters were arraigned in court on Monday 17th February 2020, while the corpse of their brother was taken to General Kago Funeral Home. A postmortem was scheduled for Wednesday, February 19.
