Leave Iraq immediately – US government tells its citizens after its airstrike killed a top Iranian General, Qasem Soleimani

The American government has advises its citizens to immediately leave Iraq, few hours after United State airstrike killed a top Iranian general identified as Qasem Soleimani (The leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps) at the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq.

Recall that Nesco Media reported earlier that Soleimani was killed alongside Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the leader of Kata’ib Hezbollah also known as Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) in Iraq.

A security alert issued by the United State embassy in Baghdad and the State Department after the airstrike, has called on all US citizens to leave Iraq immediately.

The statement shared on the embassy’s verified Twitter page, reads;

‘Due to heightened tensions in Iraq and the region, the US Embassy urges American citizens to heed the January 2020 Travel Advisory and depart Iraq immediately.

‘US citizens should depart via airline while possible, and failing that, to other countries via land.’

The statement also stated that US citizens shouldn’t approach the embassy, while the consulate general in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, would be open for appointments.

The security alert came hours after Iran threatens “harsh retaliation” against the United States after a US airstrike killed a top Iranian General. Qassem Soleimani at the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq.
