Nigerian man kills his father over cooked yam in Ebonyi

A man identified as Chibueze Iduma, has been arrested by officers of Ebonyi state police command for allegedly killing his father during a quarrel over boiled yam. 

It was gathered that, the late victim, Mr Emmanuel Oba Iduma was allegedly killed by his son who got angered upon returning home and found out that his father had ate a yam he cooked for himself. 

An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen, said; 

 “While they quarrelled over the cooked yam, the father had hit the son with his walking stick, and in retaliation, the son hit him back, he then fell down and died.”

The suspect who was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State capital, over the incident which reportedly happened in Amaofia Ngbo community, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on December 20, 2019, was handed a one court charge of murder. 

The charge read; 

 “That you Chibueze Iduma ‘m’, on the 20th day of December, 2019, at Amaefia Ngbo village, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area, under the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did unlawfully cause the death of one Emmanuel Oba Iduma ‘m’, by hitting him with walking stick and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”

Blessing Chukwu, the chief Magistrate who presided over the case ordered that the accused man be remanded at the the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Abakaliki, while his case file should be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the state for the required advice as she lacks the necessary jurisdiction to entertain such case. 

The case has been adjourned till January 29, 2020 for report of compliance.
